Golfers tee off to raise $70K for Project Builders

Project Builders once again had two fundraising golf tournaments this summer and, once again, people came to golf and to support a worthy cause.
For the first time ever, La Crete, Alta., hosted their tournament before Steinbach, Man., did—yet the weather didn’t cooperate there any better than last year. As the golf committee was busy praying for sunshine, the local farmers were praying for rain. Some may say that the farmers won this round, as the morning was dismal with a cool, steady rain that had most golfers drenched by the second hole.
Despite the weather, spirits remained high for most of the morning, but by lunch, people were ready for a break and there were very few that ventured back out for the second nine holes in the afternoon. The lunch brisket on its own is worth the 21-hour drive that it takes for me to get to the La Crete tournament. The community showed its generosity and, ultimately, Project Builders came out as the clear winner of the tournament.
Two days later in Steinbach, 130 golfers showed up to a cool, cloudy day that eventually would have golfers putting their jackets on and taking them off several times as the sun came and went from behind the clouds. Although I’ve never experienced a perfect day for golf, many expressed this sentiment throughout the day. A buffet lunch of pizza and chicken fingers as well as an amazing choice of desserts followed the 18 holes of golf.
Together, the two tournaments raised about $70,000 to go towards the 18 different projects that we have pledged to support for this year in 14 different countries. Giving in general has been down in the last year, and Project Builders is currently about $7,500 short of where we’d like to be. Donations, as well as a list of all projects for 2026, can be seen on our website at projectbuilders.ca.
