The Mennonite World Conference was founded 101 years ago with a desire to be in solidarity with Mennonites facing persecution. This was a time when political leaders were misusing their power and life was difficult for believers who held a peace position. My own relatives were living in a time of horror in the Soviet Union before they were sponsored to come to Canada in 1926.
Today is not much different for Anabaptists globally, although those of us who live in Canada are some of the most insulated from personal risk and persecution. Today we have many privileges and freedoms. But we are no less called to be in solidarity with our Anabaptist brothers and sisters everywhere.
Did you know that a recent bombing in Myanmar destroyed a Mennonite church that had almost completed construction of a new building? The bomb killed and injured members of the church, including a deacon, two youth leaders and the church treasurer.
Mennonite World Conference gathers the requests of its member churches from around the world (including Canada!) and invites you to join in an online prayer hour held every other month.
The next prayer hour is on Friday, September 18, 2026.
