SNC loves, serves, and brings peace

Saturday Night Church (SNC) in Landmark continues to meet most Saturday nights, as a small group of believers and followers of Jesus Christ, using our various gifts, to “love, serve, and bring peace to each other and to the world,” as we covenant together each year.
We celebrated together this spring as our pastor Cyndy Warkentin graduated from Providence Theological Seminary. Her Master of Divinity degree, specializing in pastoral counselling, will help her continue to lead SNC and help others in the areas where she has been called to serve. Congratulations, Cyndy!
In the summer months, we don’t have formally scheduled services, but we often gather for special events, potlucks, and service projects. An important part of SNC’s life together is the variety of service activities we perform about once a month. We have tied blankets, made casseroles for food aid groups, and made sandwiches to distribute to people who need help.
At the beginning of July, we took sandwiches to Siloam Mission, and at the end of the month, we were in charge of the Saturday pancake breakfast at Landmark’s Friendship Festival. This was our third year serving breakfast to all comers. SNC took over this activity from the Kinsmen, who had run it for many years. Brent Nellis had the whole team working like a well-oiled machine to prepare for—and clean up after—serving pancakes and sausage, coffee and juice, to several hundred people on Saturday, July 25. We took in donations for the Taché Food Bank from the generous people of Landmark. The Friendship Festival always culminates with a community church service, in which the town churches cooperate to worship God together.
Our annual discernment process identified individuals who might serve on various committees, such as elders, service, speaking and teaching, business, and other roles. As a small church, we like to get almost everyone involved in taking care of this part of Christ’s body. Discernment often discovers people who didn’t think of themselves in such roles, and who then become more enthusiastic and involved in the life of the church.
